Alaska: In Song

In my over 40,000 songs I only have two that use the word "Alaska" in the title...and no group names. I never would have guessed that.

Here they are:

Camera Obscura -- Alaska

From the If Looks Could Kill EP.

Hans Zimmer -- Clap for Alaska

From The Simpsons Movie soundtrack.

Remember the Beer Next Time

Thanks to my buddy Dan for forwarding this article to me...it doesn't look good the motherland...

WAUPACA, Wis. — A man who was upset with his wife for not buying beer took
vengeance by shooting one of the family's two pet goats, prosecutors say.

Peter W. Mischler, 48, was charged this week in Circuit Court with mistreatment of animals, possession of a firearm while intoxicated and disorderly conduct with a dangerous weapon.

The complaint said Mischler came home Saturday from hunting and became angry with his 22-year-old daughter for letting the goats out and making a mess. While she was talking on the phone to her mother, authorities said, he told her to tell his wife to bring home some beer, but his wife refused.

He then threatened to shoot the goats, according to the complaint.

After his wife arrived home, she and the daughter heard four gunshots and went outside and found one of the two goats with its entrails hanging out, authorities said. They said that goat had to be killed later by a sheriff's deputy.

A judge scheduled a hearing for Tuesday.

Robert Goulet

Robert Goulet has passed away and although he had a memorable singing and acting career for me he will forever be remembered as the villain in Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear and for making a cameo in one of the funniest episodes of The Simpsons, - "$pringfield (or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling)." Here is the song from that episode:

The Simpsons Movie DVD comes out December 18th. Pre-order your copy here.

Brad Pitt + Albert Einstein = Dick Cheney

This is originally from Playboy but was referenced in an article today on Slate regarding New Corp's desire to purchase Dow Jones.

Groening (Simpsons creator, Matt Groening): Fox News gives me a headache and not even so much for its political content but the spinning logos and American flags and music designed to scare you shitless. Who needs it? We make fun of Fox News on the show. The most fun we had was putting a news crawl like theirs across the bottom of the screen. It said things like "Rupert Murdoch: terrific dancer," "Brad Pitt plus Albert Einstein equals Dick Cheney," "Study: 92 percent of Democrats are gay," "The Bible says Jesus favored capital gains cut."

Playboy: What was the reaction at the network?

Groening: We were forbidden ever to do it again. Fox said it would confuse viewers. I don't see how you would think it's real news on a cartoon show, but we'll see.
