As a person staring down the barrel of the wedding gun [probably not the best metaphor], this essay/editorial by some guy named Roland Martin is not helpful. The thesis: marriage good, divorce bad.

CNN, why did you hire this guy? Clearly it is you trying to be more "fair and balanced" by hiring a guying getting his masters in "Christian Communications" at the unaccredited Louisiana Baptist University and writing essays on moral issues, plastering it on your "Latest News" section right along side an article about Bo Derek...

Meanwhile, Burma battles dictatorship, Pakistan attempts to form a representative government that can battle Musharraf, the band plays on in Iraq and CNN wastes resources on this...

Iran So Far

You know, if you think Iran is going to be the next-Iraq, you have had a pretty good couple of weeks as the Iranian President came to New York and made himself look like an idiot...Saddam never did this and I think that it slows down a rush to action that may not be truly needed....here is Saturday Night Live's take on it...politics and music collide again:



I think it is also very interesting how some consider homosexuality a choice and is a product of our permissive liberal society. And yet when the Iranian president says essentially the same thing, everyone, and I mean everyone, says "that's ridiculous" and when they heard it an entire nation chuckled and shook their head. This man is a threat to us?

Christopher Hitchens

I am a life long Christopher Hitchens fan (didn't we all have our parent's reading Why Orwell Matters to us at bedtime) and one who has weathered nearly everything he has written about the Iraq war, including the increasingly ridiculously titled A Long Short War: A Postponed Liberation of Iraq as our involvement in it has now surpassed out involvement in World War II.

Recent articles about the letters of Mother Theresa have reminded me of Hitchens' best book, The Missionary Position: Mother Theresa in Theory and Practice in which he takes on one of the most universally respected people primarily because people know nothing about her.

Iraqi Vacation

The Daily Show covers the Iraqi Parliament vacation with thoughts from some of our soldiers...my favorite part:

"Have fun on your vacation. We'll be over here holdin' down the fort, because this is an actual frickin' fort."

Two Events

One story that dominated the news for a few days (and rightfully so): Bridge Collapse...whoops, I'm sorry...wrong story...Bridge Collapse (in America)...

Here is another story that I don't think will get as much coverage. I know it isn't right in our backyard and Brian Williams can't easily broadcast from there...plus they don't have the great "Minnesota Nice" tag line...but we should be having around-the-clock updates on the hunt for the masterminds behind these murders.

ABC & Iraq

I don't generally write about the Iraq War but this clip from ABC news is pretty amazing as it follows troops around Iraq. You can draw your own conclusions from it.
