New Verve Album Details

If I'm not careful, this summer [into early fall] may turn out to be one of the best ever in terms of new albums by my favorite artists/groups. We've already had new Portishead and Beck...I'm counting down to new Oasis and Ben Folds. And now we have details of the new Verve album.

As you can see the album is called "Forth" and will hit our shores August 26th. There are a bunch of different ways to the buy the album and some have bonus tracks available as well as downloads right away. Check out all the info at The Verve's store.

Here are a couple of older Verve tracks:

The Verve -- Star Sail
From the A Storm in Heaven album.

The Verve -- 6 O'Clock
From the No Come Down album.

Tuesday is National Portishead Day

So tomorrow is the big day when the new Portishead album hits North America...It has been 3,864 days since the last proper new album [September 30, 1997 -- April 29, 2008] and the reviews seem to indicate that the album may be well worth the wait...

Only You

So we are down to about 34 days until the 3rd Portishead album hits shelves and I have to say I can't remember a time when I was more excited about a new album...well, it was probably for Radiohead's Kid A.

I remember watching Saturday Night Live in 1998 and being pleasantly surprised by Portishead's performance and the genre they championed, trip hop. I fell in love instantly and along with The Chemical Brothers and Prodigy, they were a huge part of my late 90's personal soundtrack. Loren Michaels doesn't let SNL clips on YouTube so I can't post that specific performance of "Only You" but here is one from the Roseland Ballroom.

Album 3

Now that Radiohead's In Rainbows [a.k.a. Album 7] is out, we can all focus on the next urgently needed opus, Portishead's Album 3. Filter Magazine has a little update on the progress of the album:

The long waited third Portishead LP is finally closer to being finished. According to a blog posted by Geoff Barrow, the album, which has been ten years in the making, is currently in the mixing stage.

While no other details have been announced, Portishead are the curators for this year's (All Tomorrow's Parties sponsored) Nightmare Before Christmas Festival going down in Minehead, England on December 7-9. The band will also perform among the likes of Thurston Moore, Black Mountain, Silver Apples, Aphex Twin and a slew of others.
