Songs That I Like #5: Ryan Adams "Tennessee Sucks"

As Ryan Adams fanatics go, I came to the party pretty late. My first "this is great" moment was hearing "Nuclear" from the Demolition album/demo collection. I dove straight in and when I got to track eight I fell in love. "Tennessee Sucks" is the quite anthem for anyone living in a semi-shitty place in the sweltering heat of June, July, and August. Wisconsin definitely sucks in the summer so I can only imagine what it's like in Tennessee.

Ryan Adams -- Tennessee Sucks
From the Demolition album.

P.S. And like this lone questioner on Yahoo! Answers: "Anybody heard of the Ryan Adams Box Set due late this winter? Know a release date?" This question resonates through the infinite abyss of the universe.

Previously on Songs That I Like:
#4: Shawn Colvin "Sunny Came Home" or a pyro gets revenge.
#3: Van Morrison "Comfortably Numb" or the soundtrack to a car crash.
#2: The Libertines "Good Old Days" or please don't reminisce.
#1: Saves the Day "Freakish" or I think I love you.

Spring Break In Wisconie

Thinking about it, I have never gone anywhere warm and sunny for Spring Break. I was hoping for maybe lower 60’s when I got off the plane in Minneapolis on Thursday…instead by the next morning I had this:

Next year chances are I will be living in Wisconsin, Kansas, or Missouri depending on how things pan out and so I’ve got a 66% chance of having a warmer Spring Break next year.

The Arcade Fire – Cold Wind
From the soundtrack to Six Feet Under, Vol. 2: Everything Ends.

Coldplay – How To See the World No. 2
From the charity album Help: A Day in the Life.

Timezones

Aaaaaahhhhhh....final exams are over....I leave for spring break tomorrow...and all is right with the world...I am sorry to everyone that has sent emails recently. I will be working through them this week.

I am visiting my family this week in Wisconsin which is two hours ahead of Seattle in the time zone department...My fiance is in Latvia which is normally 10 hours ahead of Seattle time...America just had day light savings time last week [roughly a month earlier than we normally do] but Latvia doesn't do their "spring forward" until mid-April...so whenever we try to coordinate a phone call while I am in Wisconsin, we sound like this:

No Brother Good In Law of Mine From Illinois

Any true Cheesehead knows that those are lyrics from "Da Turdy Point Buck"...I write them today because of friend of mine, Dan (from Illinois), likes to send me "relevant" news articles about Wisconsin at its best...yesterday he sent me this article: "Man gets probation for dead deer sex" with the subject line "only in wisconsin..."

Garbage -- Sex Is Not The Enemy
This track is from the Bleed Like Me album.

Awesome

So, we have almost set a record for snowfall in Wisconsin in December...I couldn't have planned my trip home any better...This is from the above article:

Todd Messerschmidt, manager of the Kitz & Pfeil Power Center in Oshkosh, said it’s been “an awesome” month for sales of snow blowers, parts and service.

“We haven’t had snow like this in a number of years,” he said.
Now I am imagining that Todd's "Awesome" is like Chris Farly's at the end of the deer destroying car scene from Tommy Boy [it can be found at 4:26 into this video montage].

On Christmas Eve my sister and I got into "a discussion" about religion and religious thoughts have been floating about in my head more often than usual ever since...And as I was siting watching the snow fall yesterday something occurred to me...in Noah's time when God hit the reset button and flooded the Earth and killed everyone, it seems like that was done pretty easily for people around the equator or the Middle East. I mean you only really need a few inches of really quick falling rain to cause a serious flood or mud slide...and a few feet could cause some serious damage and wipe out most everyone...

But lets assume that God picked the winter to wipe everyone out...well, this changes everything doesn't it?...Can a civilization be wiped out by snow? It certainly is a preferable alternative to rain...and I think a well organized town with some shovels and snow blowers could hold God off for quite while...or they could just build cities under the snow...this is what I think about when I run out of episodes of
The Honeymooners to watch.

I guess my point is this...what would the Bible be like if it had been written by someone with say a Norwegian or Swedish perspective?

Rivers Cuomo -- Lover in the Snow
From the demo album: Alone: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo.

Remember the Beer Next Time

Thanks to my buddy Dan for forwarding this article to me...it doesn't look good the motherland...

WAUPACA, Wis. — A man who was upset with his wife for not buying beer took
vengeance by shooting one of the family's two pet goats, prosecutors say.

Peter W. Mischler, 48, was charged this week in Circuit Court with mistreatment of animals, possession of a firearm while intoxicated and disorderly conduct with a dangerous weapon.

The complaint said Mischler came home Saturday from hunting and became angry with his 22-year-old daughter for letting the goats out and making a mess. While she was talking on the phone to her mother, authorities said, he told her to tell his wife to bring home some beer, but his wife refused.

He then threatened to shoot the goats, according to the complaint.

After his wife arrived home, she and the daughter heard four gunshots and went outside and found one of the two goats with its entrails hanging out, authorities said. They said that goat had to be killed later by a sheriff's deputy.

A judge scheduled a hearing for Tuesday.

Beck -- Beercan
From the Mellow Gold album.

Siberian -- Belgian Beer and Catholic Girls
From the With Me (Dig) album.

The Simpsons -- It Was A Very Good Beer
