The Boxing Lesson

The Boxing Lesson have a lot going on in their personal lives right now [you can read about it here] but that hasn't stopped them from making an outstanding new album, Wild Streaks and Windy Days.

The two tracks highlighted here are my favorites. "Brighter" is a Queens of the Stone Age-esque freakout that burns out at the 3:30 mark while "Lower" strums along for more than double the length. This is where you can find the comparisons to Pink Floyd and the more psychedelic Verve songs.

Both tracks are from the Wild Streaks and Windy Days album.

Songs That I Like #3: Van Morrison "Comfortably Numb"

I've recently been watching the final three seasons of The Sopranos just to remind myself how good the show was and how exactly the series ended. And to end the debate, Tony dies at the end of the series. End of discussion.

This song is playing when Michael drives off the road in Season Six, Part 2, leading to his death at Tony's hands. It is Mr. Morrison covering Pink Floyd's classic.

Garfield Minus Garfield

It is sadly probably only a matter of time until this blog, Garfield Minus Garfield, gets sued and shut down, but until then enjoy the sublime creation of the Garfield cartoon without Garfield. It reminds me of when Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wizard of Oz are played together and the product becomes a whole new thing entirely...

Here are two of my favorites:

Al Stewart -- Year of the Cat
From the album of the same title.

Tony Tisdale -- Catwalkin'
This is the song played during the beauty pageant montage in Little Miss Sunshine and can be found on the movie's soundtrack.
