Noel's Top 10

Noel Gallagher has given us his list of his Top 10 bands....with a couple of qualifiers:

A.  No solo artists
B.  No female artists
C.  No collectives...the article sites Public Enemy as a collective...I wonder if that means something like Audioslave wouldn't count either...or what about The Byrds or Cream?

Here's his list:

1.  The Beatles
2.  The Rolling Stones
3.  The Who
4.  Sex Pistols
5.  The Kinks
6.  The La's
7.  Pink Floyd
8.  The Bee Gees
9. The Specials
10.  Fleetwood Mac [the Peter Green years]

The Bee Gees?  Sheesh...he might as well have put The Eagles.  A distinctively English list and I am surprised that he didn't pick the Stone Roses as well.

Here is my list...clearly there are better bands then the one's I have selected but these are the my Top 10 for personal reasons...

1a.  The Kinks
1b.  Radiohead
3.  The Beach Boys
4.  The Zombies
5.  Nirvana
6.  Blur
7.  Ben Folds Five
8.  Wilco
9.  Weezer
10a.  Belle & Sebastian
10b. Led Zeppelin

Oasis "Shock of the Lightening" Video

I am really starting to get pumped for the new Oasis album...here is the video for the first single which I think is pretty good...except it seems that Liam is back with the Richard III haircut again.

The opening shot of the video is an homage to this famous Rolling Stones cover:

New Verve Album Details

If I'm not careful, this summer [into early fall] may turn out to be one of the best ever in terms of new albums by my favorite artists/groups. We've already had new Portishead and Beck...I'm counting down to new Oasis and Ben Folds. And now we have details of the new Verve album.

As you can see the album is called "Forth" and will hit our shores August 26th. There are a bunch of different ways to the buy the album and some have bonus tracks available as well as downloads right away. Check out all the info at The Verve's store.

Here are a couple of older Verve tracks:

The Verve -- Star Sail
From the A Storm in Heaven album.

The Verve -- 6 O'Clock
From the No Come Down album.

Abandon All Hope

For the first time in several years, I didn't get up early today and hit the stores in the early AM of Black Friday....it's not from a lack of desire; I would have gone if there was anything worth risking my life for...

Oasis -- I Hope, I Think, I Know

Lord Don't Slow Me Down

The new Oasis single "Lord Don't Slow Me Down" is available now...and like Radiohead, they are currently not signed to a record company and they want to try something new...they are distributing the new single online only on their website...

I am not going to post it as you really should support the band...but here's a brief review...

Oasis -- "Lord Don't Slow Me Down"
Ranking: Jimmy Carter

MOR rocker with Noel on lead vocals. It sounds like [and could very well have been] a left over from Don't Believe the Truth. The song comes bundle with a live version of "The Meaning of Soul" and "Don't Look Back In Anger." The latter track is very interesting in that the crowd sings so loud that at times it makes Noel vocals seem like just another voice in the crowd.

Rilo Kiley at First Ave.

When I was on vacation last week, I got to go see Rilo Kiley at First Avenue in Minneapolis with my sister...we hadn't been to a real concert together since Oasis back in....gee, I don't know...it was that horrible Brotherly Love tour they did with The Black Crowes...thankfully we only had to sit through Spacehog (although "In the Meantime" was awesome) before Oasis came on...and then we could just skip The Black Crowes...

But I digress, here are two songs from the new Rilo Kiley album, Under the Blacklight.

Get your Rilo Kiley stickers here, t-shirts here, and records here.

The Manics: The Band My Grandma Told Me Was Cool

My Grandma was born in England and met my Grandpa while he was fighting there in World War II. When I was little, my Grandma would fly over and visit her family nearly every year and she would always bring presents home for my sister and me. When I was a little older, my Grandma would bring a CD home that was popular in England (her niece, Diane, helped her pick it out).
She gave me my first copies of Oasis' "What's the Story Morning Glory" which I had heard about but hadn't picked up yet and a band called the Manic Street Preachers. I had never heard of them before but their album Everything Must Go became on of my all time favorites.
This is a track from their next album, This Is My Truth, Tell Me Yours...remixed by the great Massive Attack.
Not all of the Manics albums are available in America, to get them all go here.

A Worried Tony Blair

Tony was worried that Oasis were going to do their best Sonic Youth impersonation:
